Assisted Living Visitation Policy

PURPOSE:

This document is to provide the Family member, Residents, and Staff in Florida
guidance for in-person visitation under Section 408.823, Florida Statutes; also known as the “No
Patient Left Alone Act.”

PROCEDURES:
  1.  O.S.J. Family place Visitation Policy and Procedure is available on the facility website at:
    www.osjfamilyplace.com.
  2.  The facility will appoint the Administrator as the person responsible for ensuring staff stick to
    the Visitation Policy and Procedure.
  3. Safety-related policies and procedures are not more stringent than those established for staff of
    the facility. Visitors are not required to provide proof of any vaccination or immunization. This
    policy allows consensual physical contact between a Resident and Visitor.
  4. The facility identifies Residents may select a Visitor who is a family member, friend,
    guardian, or other individual as a caregiver. The facility will allow in-person visitation by the
    essential caregiver.
  5. The facility does require The designated essential staff to documented in Resident’s medical
    record and updated upon the observation while they supervised the resident if some happen are
    something change in the residents daily living.
  6. Residents are allowed in-person visitation in all the following circumstances, unless the
    Resident objects:
    a. If they are facing end-of-life situations;
    b. Resident who is struggling with the change in environment and lack of in-person family
    support;
    c. If resident is making one or more major medical decisions;
    d. If resident is experiencing some type of emotional distress, grieving the loss of a loved one’s;
    e. If a resident needs encouragement to eat or drink which was previously provided by a family
    member or caregiver;
    f. If a resident who used to talk and interact with others is seldom speaking.
  7. The facility has no limit on the number of Visitors per Resident. As long as they keep noise
    volume at a minimum and do not make the room too crowded, and they do not Disturb the other
    resident or violate their rights.
    The O.S.J. Family place may limit the total number of Visitors allowed in the facility at any
    given time based on the ability of staff to safely screen and monitor the space used to
    accommodate the Visitors and based on adherence to the infection control protocols of physical
    distancing.
  8. Visitors are welcome to visit at any time. General visiting hours are from 9:00am – 9:00pm.
    After 9:00pm, Visitors should use the call the facility are staff instead of ringing the doorbell to
    not disturb the residents and wait for staff to provide them with access. There is no limitation on
    the visitation length.
  9. The facility will document and screen the Visitor per O.S.J. Family place infection control
    policy and procedure. The facility will document the name of the individual, the date, and time
    of entry.
  10.  Comply with the Infection control and education policies for visitor Infection Control
    policies may require a visitor to wear Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) including properly
    wear a face mask and other necessary PPE and perform hand hygiene. Staff will provide
    directions on the proper use of PPE.
  11.  The facility does not require Visitors to agree in writing to follow the visitation policies and
    procedures. However, if the Visitor has violated the policies and procedures, the facility may
    suspend in-person visitation for the specific individual.
Community Access Procedure
  • Upon arrival check in at the front desk.
  • Sign in and out on the Visitor Log.
  • Visitors will be instructed and given the Visitation/Infection control guidelines.
Visitor Education
  • Standard Precautions
    • Every visit shall require the visitor to sign in and out in the visitor log
    • Regular hand washing will be adhered to before, during and after the visit
    • Standard Precautions eliminates the need to routinely place residents in private rooms for infection control purposes.
  • Hand-washing for Visitors
    • Hand-washing facilities will always be available for use by visitors.
    • Hand washing and cleansing with an alcohol-based sanitizer are acceptable methods for hand hygiene. Hand washing with soap and warm water should be performed to remove dirt, blood, and body fluids.
    •  Visitors will clean their hands before and after visit, and as needed during the visit.
    Proper Hand-washing Technique:
    • Remove all jewelry, including rings.
    • Run the faucet so that the water is lukewarm and wet the hands.
    • Use a small amount of liquid soap to cover the hands and wrists. Soap the forearms, if necessary,
    to cleanse beyond the area of contamination.
    • Use friction. Rub one hand upon the other, and interlace the fingers of both hands, using a backand- forth motion for at least 20 seconds.
    • Rinse your hands and wrists under running water. Always hold the hands so that they are lower
    than the elbows to allow water to flow from the fingertips.
    • Dry your hands with a clean paper towel.
    • Use a paper towel to turn off the water faucet.
    Visitors will be required to practice hand hygiene before, during,
    and after visits.
